Steve Martin has denied allegations by former Little Shop of Horrors co-star Miriam Margolyes, who claimed he hit her during the filming of the 1986 movie.
In her memoir, Oh Miriam: Stories from an Extraordinary Life, Margolyes recounted being repeatedly hit with doors and fake punches while filming the famous “Dentist!” scene. She described Martin as unkind and overly focused on achieving comedic perfection, which she felt made him dismissive of her as a co-star.
Martin, in a statement to Fox News Digital, refuted these allegations. He explained that extreme caution was taken during the scene and that there was no physical contact of any kind. He recalled rehearsing the stunt carefully and noted that Margolyes had assured him she was fine during filming.
Director Frank Oz also backed Martin’s account, stating that all physical actions were rehearsed in slow motion and that Martin had always been professional and respectful.
The conflicting accounts have sparked debate among fans, with some questioning Margolyes’ claims while others express surprise at her portrayal of Martin. Regardless, the contrasting narratives leave lingering curiosity about what truly happened on set.
